Rich Snippets for Your Bigcommerce Store Using Schema Structured Data
Posted by swilliams on 30th Jan 2015
Many have demonstrated how to add structured data markup to Bigcommerce product pages. Unfortunately, quite a few have steered you wrong. As such I am endeavoring to show you the proper (albeit more intensive) way of doing it.
Why Add Schema.org Structured Data?
Coding is hard enough. Why bother with the added effort of adding structured data markup to your store template?
First, while Google is one of the most intelligent things in the entire world, it still needs help sometimes. In a semantic search era, it doesn't hurt to give them every possible hint as to what the various pieces of data on your site are. This helps bring additional meaning to the content of your site. Why hope that the bots can parse out that a product has 22 reviews when we can clearly delineate that.
Second, the beauty of this is that Google may now choose to display you data in the search results in rich snippet format. They may show product price, avergage rating, and number of reviews. This, in turn, can have a significant impact on click through rates. Furthermore, because searchers have more information prior to clicking on a result the likelihood that they have found what they are looking for after clicking onto your site is greater, increasing conversion rates as well.
Lastly, because I'm going to tell you exactly how to do it. All the hard work is done.
